Version 2.0 update
Your order will supply Version 2.0 of the board which has has the following updates.
- An additional I2C port for the OLED display
- An additional Port for the second Slider Limit switch update
- There is no need for the resistor patch on the back of the board which facilitated the use of the OLED. This is built onto the board now.
The Digital Bird Kits are good value for money and have been put together to make the whole project much more accessible. With the kits you can build any of the system parts in less than a day. However for those happy to find all the parts themselves this is the generic Digital Bird main board and battery harness which can be used as a base to build either the Slider, Balanced Pan Tilt ,Turntable or the jib. Everything else is left for you to supply yourself.
To complete the board you will need a 38pin ESP32 Development board together with one or two TMC 2208 V3.0 Stepper drivers The Pan Tilt heads will require two the other devices only require one. Also included here are the Digital Bird NP Style battery boards. The TMC drivers should be STEP/DIR mode.
If you are not experienced working with bare PCB boards or have little or no experience with Arduino projects I would strongly advise purchasing one of the kits since they will arrive fully working and tested with software installed and all the additional components required.
The TMC drivers require to be tuned to the requirements of the motor they are driving. This is performed by tuning the Vref voltage using the small screw pot on top of the driver to increase or decrees the drivers Vref voltage. To establish the current setting you need a multi meter and a small screwdriver. place the black probe from the meter onto the boards ground and the red probe against the small screw on top of the driver and read the Vref. For this project you will typically be driving either a Nema17 or Nema11 motor. The Vref for a Nema17 should be about 0.9v. For the smaller Nema11 this should be 0.6v Turning the screw clockwise in very small steps will reduce the value. It is important that you power the board from the battery and not through the ESP32 USB port. Also do not have a stepper motor plugged into the board when performing this task.
Note.: Pin risers are only supplied for stepper 1 and only used when building the board to power the slider Pan head or Jib. Boards intended for use in the Pan Tilt heads should have the drivers soldered directly to the main board since there is no space for risers on those designs. Please let me know by email if you need the board for the mini Jib as I will not solder on the RJ45 port since it is not required and will interfere with the encoder position on that build. my email is : digitalbirdfilm@gmail.com
